La pratique d’Anouk Kruithof s’inscrit au croisement de la photographie, de la sculpture, de l’installation, du photomontage, des livres d’artistes, du texte, de la performance, de la vidéo et des interventions dans l’espace public. Son travail est une enquête sur la représentation sur Internet de thèmes sociétaux actuels. Au cours de ces dernières années, elle a recueilli des images traitant de questions telles que la protection de la vie privée, la surveillance gouvernementale, la pollution et les changements climatiques. Elle les soumet à un examen critique en les extrayant de la sphère numérique, et en traduisant ces photo-graphiques en son propre langage visuel tridimensionnel et idiosyncrasique. Elle s’intéresse à la façon dont notre condition psychologique est modifiée par les temps instables que nous vivons (contrôle systématique, stress et chaos), dans un monde dominé par la technologie.
Anouk Kruithof est une artiste néerlandaise née à Dordrecht en 1981. De 2011 et 2015 elle vit à Mexico City et à New York. Aujourd’hui, elle vit et travaille entre la Belgique (Bruxelles), les Pays-Bas et sa maison en bois au milieu de la forêt amazonienne à Botopasi (Surinam).

En 2017 elle réalise deux expositions personnelles au Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City) et au FOAM (Amsterdam), en parallèle de sa première exposition personnelle à la Galerie Valeria Cetraro (Paris). En 2018, elle présente une exposition personnelle à la Fotopub Association for Contemporary Culture à Liubljana, et à la Material Art Fair de Mexico City avec la Galerie Valeria Cetraro. En 2019, elle expose son travail à la Casemore I Kirkeby Gallery à San Francisco (USA). En 2020, Anouk Kruithof réalise l’exposition « Universal Tongue » à Voo?uit à Gent (Belgique) et à Manifesta13, Parallel Du Sud. En 2021, elle propose l’exposition « Trans Human Nature » à 254Forest-The Room- (Belgique) et à la Galerie Valeria Cetraro (Paris). En 2022, « Universal Tongue » a fait l’objet d’une exposition personnelle au Musée Tinguely de Bâle, en Suisse, et au musée Melkweg Expo de Amsterdam, aux Pays-Bas. En 2023, Anouk Kruithof présente une exposition personnelle « The toes you step on today might be connected to the ass you’re kissing tomorrow » au Willem Twee Kunstruimte à Hertogenbosch (Pays-Bas). Dans la même année, elle présente « Tentacle Togetherness », une exposition personnelle exposée au Centre Photographique d’Ile-de-France et son exposition personnelle « Universal Tongue » est présentée à la Galerie Valeria Cetraro (Paris) ainsi qu’au Confort Moderne (Poitiers).
Anouk Kruithof a remporté plusieurs prix publics : le Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst Prijs (2016), le Meijburg Art Commission (2015), le Charlotte Köhler Prize aux Pays-Bas (2014), le Infinity Award of the International Center for Photography à New York (2012), le Grand Prix du Jury à Hyères, lors du Festival International de Mode et de Photographie (2011).
Son travail fait partie de plusieurs collections publiques : FOAM à Amsterdam ; Stedelijk Museum à Amsterdam ; Fotomuseum Winterthur en Suisse ; The Aperture Foundation à New York ; Museum Het Domein Sittard. Anouk Kruithof est également la co-fondatrice, directrice et membre du jury du nouveau prix Anamorphosis, dont la première édition s’est tenue au printemps 2015.
Anouk Kruithof’s multilayered, interdisciplinary approach encompasses photography, sculpture, installation, photo-montage, artist-books, text, performance, video and interventions in the public domain. Kruithof’s work is an investigation into the online representation of urgent societal themes. Over the past few years she collected circulating images related to issues like privacy, government surveillance, pollution and climate change. Kruithof subjects these to critical scrutiny by extracting existing imagery from the digital sphere, and translating the photo-graphs into her own idiosyncratic three-dimensional visual idiom. She is interested in how the human psychological condition is shifting in unstable times of systematic control, stress and chaos in the technologically mediated world.
Anouk Kruithof is a Dutch artist born in 1981, who settled in Mexico City after living in New York from 2011 to 2015. Today, she lives and works between Belgium (Brussels), The Netherlands, and her wooden house in the middle of the Amazon rainforest in Botopasi (Surinam).

Kruithof is also co-creator, director and jury member of the new Anamorphosis Prize, which will award $10,000, no strings attached, to the creator of the best self-published photo-book from the previous year. The prize was launched for the first time in spring 2015.
